Year 6 Volume Work
The Cube
In the year 6 rooms Miss Foster and Mrs Barlow told the classes that we have to make a 1 metre cube making it only out of newspaper and masking tape. The challenge was to make a self supported cube without anyone holding it or hiding inside! It was part of the maths unit we were studying, volume.
The first step was to build all six sides. This was the easy part. The second step was to find a solution for making it stand up. My group, Group 5, solved this problem by rolling up newspaper and making them into frames.
Once we set out the sides as a net, we started sticking the rolled up newspaper onto the sides. Then we started putting up the sides to finish the cube. The members of my group were: Sam R, Jesse, Alicia, Amy and me (Melina). We were the first team finished.
At lunch time the cube started falling apart so I decided to go inside the cube. It was hot inside the cube. Someone took a picture of me coming out of the cube. Before the bell went Alicia, Sophie and I wrecked it because it was a goner. Everyone had a lot of fun building it, but wrecking all the hard work we had done was even more exciting!
